Our Quest To Help Kayakers Through the flatLands

Wet, and Definitely Wild

As the rain continues to fall, it becomes apparent that not all of our Kayaking trips will be sunny with a high of 70-degrees. Our latest trip took us to the big town of Oxford, Kansas. Located south of Wichita, right off of the Kansas turnpike. The town offers a great drop location at Cave Park, alongside the Arkansas River (Ark River). After dropping our kayaks at Cave Park and taking the secondary vehicle approx. eight miles down the road to 202 Rd, we slowly began to realize that the weather might not be in our favor this evening.

Once we hit the Ark, all our problems and the weather seemed to disappear.  We enjoyed a great three-hour paddle down the sixth largest river in the U.S. The trip offered a few spots of low flow, but nothing that couldn’t be maneuvered by kayak, and no real hauling had to be done. Paddling with the current made it more difficult to pick up trash along the side; however we did manage to grab several very random articles. In our combined efforts, we scraped up: Two duck decoys, one Air Jordan basketball, a five-gallon oil container and the typical bottles and cans. The duck decoys now reside in our office as decorations.

My wife and I and some friends are going to do this one on Sun 8/17, any tips? You think the water is still high enough? Was there a place to park on 202 or you just left a vehicle on the side of the road? We going to need waders? Always looking for new places, hope you post some more!

Yes, although this is truly a great (approx 10 mile) adventure. My fear is that you will find quite a few sand bars (low spots) with how the river looks here in Wichita. A few tips if you decide it's worth it, b/c it usually is.
You'll want to park and drop your Kayaks at Cave Park in Oxford they have a boat ramp there but make sure someone stays behind as we had a few teenagers from town think they were getting new kayaks. Then drop a second vehicle off at 202, park on the east side of the bridge on 202 as it was easier to pull the kayaks up, west side wasn't as accessible.
Also, if you go, let me know how it turns out as I would love to hit it up the river this year as well. As an alternative, if you've never seen the waterfall at Cowley lake (posted on 6/25) it's worth the trip but rivers are always a great day trip as long as your in your boat more than out of it.

Kayak safe,

So my son and I did the trip today. Too long of a trip for beginners. We were beat by the end of it. Yes, we did run into a few sand bars and we were hoping the bridge was around every bend. I think it took us almost 4 hours to make it to the end. It needs a lot more water before we will do it again. I think a good current would make it go a little quicker also. Heading back to Bemis creek tomorrow with some friends. Thanks for the advice!

Hello, Matt! I am a bit clueless in regards with the difference of kayaking in a sunny day and a gloomy day. Does it affect your speed? If the water is high, then I guess it's not worth suggesting to do kayaking trips, unless you are an expert already. But it's definitely an adventure to do kayaking while its wet, because it's definitely wild! But of course, we need to do these adventures with the help of the professional because it's kind of dangerous!

There are two free game resources in the game, which are record breaking and multiplayer modes.
