To most kayakers in the Wichita area, one would think that El Dorado lake is over ran with large boats and too busy for any kayak on the weekends. What I recently found was that if you know the right honey holes, it is quite the contrary. You see, El Dorado lake has around seven creeks that branch off from the larger body of water and flow to the east. If you're looking for a peaceful quite evening on the water, I'll let you in on a little secret. See map to your left.

Take 177 North over the East end of the lake. Once across, take your first right on NE 20th Rd, then another right at the first dirt road you see. This road will lead you back to Bemis Creek, where there is even a easy spot to drop your Kayak in. You can head up the creek for a bit of Tranquility from the world or stroll your way into the large lake for a beautiful sunset in the evening. Whatever your poison, let us know how you like it.

My wife and I followed your directions last weekend. It was an awesome place for us beginners. We also picked up a few pieces of trash! Thanks for sharing!

We cannot deny the fact that El Dorado is very famous because of kayaking. Many tourists around the world want to try how different it is to so kayaking in El Dorado compared to other places, and of course I am one of the many people who want to experience that. Though some reviews were saying the the direction on how to get there seems pretty complicated, my desire is actually bigger than the idea of being confused, so I am definitely saying yes to this kind of adventure!

Thank you so much for this suggestion and great directions! My hubby and I took our brand new kayaks out there last night and it was sooooo peaceful and beautiful! We saw deer in the wooded area, and numerous herons and egrets, and evening some stunning wild flowers. Very memorable and special place. Thank you very much!!

Do you know what that location is like this week? Would the river be too high for kayaking?
